Many interesting and important personalities have come out of Birmingham but none more so than the individuals whose likenesses adorn the exterior wall of the Firehouse Community Arts Center located in Avondale.

Sun Ra, the Rev Fred Shuttlesworth, Angela Davis, and Spider Martin have, in their own distinct ways, changed the course of Birmingham’s tumultuous story. Firehouse Community Arts Center and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will present a series of public, outside events at the Center that will focus on and celebrate the life of each person depicted.

Each month, between April and August, invited speakers will discuss the significance of these former Birmingham residents and their relevance to the history of the city.

Each share, tweet, and email helps us spread the word about Firehouse Community Arts Center.
